Laparoscopy may be used to diagnose infertility or to treat any kind of fertility problem. Laparoscopy is known to be a surgical procedure that involves making smaller incisions in the abdomen, through which the doctor inserts a laparoscope and other specialized instruments. Laparoscopy allows your doctor to see the abdominal organs and sometimes make repairs, without making a larger incision that can require longer recovery time and hospital stay.

If a woman is undergoing pelvic pain, then the consensus is that surgery may be recommended. However, in cases of unexplained infertility, or situations where pelvic pain is not a factor, whether the benefits of the surgery outweigh the risks is a matter of debate.

When is laparoscopy recommended?

Usually, it’s performed only after another infertility testing has been completed. Possible reasons your doctor may give you include:

  • You experience pain during sexual intercourse

  • You face severe menstrual cramps or pelvic pain at other times in your cycle

  • Moderate to severe endometriosis is suspected

  • Pelvic inflammatory disease

Why is it important?

Some cases of infertility can only be diagnosed through laparoscopy (Endometriosis, for instance). Laparoscopy allows your doctor to not only see what’s inside your abdomen but also biopsy suspicious or cysts. Thereby, it can treat some causes of infertility, allowing a better chance at conceiving either naturally or with fertility treatments. Laparoscopy can be used to remove scar tissue, a fibroid, or endometrial deposits that are causing pain.

At NU Fertility@NU Hospitals, you’ll be offered with one of the finest laparoscopic surgeries for infertility in Bangalore.
