WHEN CHOOSE FROZEN EMBRYOS?
To give the most ideal results, the IVF Specialist will develop more than one embryo, during an IVF Cycle. Transferring one and freezing other embryos is recommended to remove the risk linked to multiple pregnancies in case more than one embryo is transferred at a time.
How are embryos frozen?
Embryos are frozen from day 2 the four-cell stage till Day 5, Blastocyst. The embryo freezing is carefully taken care of by our specialists who label the container where it is stored with the name of the patient and other registered identifications.
They are kept in a freezing machine, where the temperature falls quickly to - 150°C. This fast freezing process is called vitrification. To safeguard the embryos, it's moved into a little case and into another freezer filled with fluid nitrogen, keeping the temperature at - 196° Celsius.
What is FET?
During an IVF cycle, an embryo might be defrosted and transferred into the patient’s uterus. This is all called frozen embryo transfer (FET) treatment. This means that the patient can forgo another cycle of hormone stimulation and an egg collection. As per the patient’s preference, she can undergo this treatment procedure during the natural cycle or with hormone treatment, or ovulation induction.
Frozen Embryo Transfer Procedure
The specialist trained in the IVF procedure will insert a device called a speculum for a better visual of the cervix. This aids the specialist to clean the uterus with sterile water and place the embryo.
Benefits of a frozen embryo transfer treatment
Frozen embryo transfer treatment presents more chances for pregnancy for every hormone stimulation cycle and egg collection. In the case that the patient doesn't conceive from the initial transfer from that cycle, other perfectly healthy embryos can be thawed from the previous cycle.
